EES simulation at Prague airport

Prague Airport as a pioneer: EES simulation starts

The Czech Border Police has decided to execute an EES pilot phase even before the connection to the productive EES Central System (CS-EES) is established. For this purpose, an EES simulator will be used that has already been implemented.

After several delays, the Entry/Exit System (EES) is now scheduled to begin operations in November 2024. Prior to the official entry into operation (EiO) date, the Czech Republic will begin pilot operation, which will provide an opportunity to verify the usability and accuracy of all sensors used and applications implemented, including user interfaces.

“We believe that the EES simulator brings many benefits, such as full live training of our border control staff, as the user interface (UI) of the border control solution is the same as the one used after EiO. The start of the full-scale pilot operation was in early August and will continue until the official EES EiO date," reports col. Petr Malovec, Deputy director at the Czech Border Police.

How it works: The EES simulator has been implemented to use the full range of EES functionality needed for the first line of the border control. The border control process is supported by self-service systems. All 58 secunet easykiosks installed at Prague Airport will be used as a process accelerator. If the traveller has used the easykiosk, then his or her data can be found by using the MRZ of the identity document as a token or by using a modern feature called FAAT (Face As A Token) or FPAAT (Finger Print As A Token).

All manual border control booths have 55 secunet easytowers at Prague Airport fully integrated into the border control application. Each traveller will have their own local traveller file with informative electronic stamps. The pilot solution will be available in both directions (entry/exit). In addition to the automated solutions for the manual border control booth, the recently operating 17 secunet easygates will also play an important role in the EES process.

Due to the pilot operation the Czech Republic is a pioneer in the context of EES. “We are looking forward to tackling EiO well prepared together with our partner secunet,” says Malovec.
