Automated border control gates at the Hungarian hubs

Implementation of Automated Border Control Gates at the Hungarian Hubs

The Budapest and Debrecen airports have been recording double-digit growth in passenger traffic for years – the number of passengers has almost doubled in just ten years. The installation of ABC gates in the border control area is one of the essential innovations to meet the increasing number of passengers in the long run without compromising security.

In close cooperation with the local partner and general contractor ARH, a specialist for identity document reading, authentication and biometrics, secunet has implemented a total of 14 secunet easygates into the existing border control infrastructure at both airports. All ABC gates went into operation in October 2019.

secunet supplied the ABC gates including maintenance and support services for several years as well as the corresponding border control servers and the monitoring application for the police. The easygate solution also includes secunet biomiddle, a powerful middleware platform, which enables the modular use of biometric system components and passport readers. Thanks to this flexibility, ARH's Combo Smart passport reader – thus Hungarian expertise – has been integrated into the secunet easygates for the first time. Border officials and passengers benefit from an optimised document reading process at the gate entrance, quick and reliable biometric verification, and thus from faster control processes.
