Spain relies on the secunet elD PKI Suite for its electronic identity document infrastructure.

These documents are protected by a public key infrastructure (PKI). The PKI issues certificates that protect the data stored on the elD chip against manipulation and unauthorized access, while also enabling efficient verification.

The secunet elD PKI Suite incorporates all the necessary PKI components for issuing eMRTDs. These include the ICAO PKI components CSCA, DS, N-PKD and DSS, and the EAC PKcomponents. CVCA, DVCA and SPOC.

Spain benefits from a high degree of automation, which significantly reduces operational expenses. In addition, the current standards for a PKI for eMRTDs are met. These include ICAO Doc 9303, BSI TR-03139, BSI TR-03129 and BSI TR-03110 guidelines.

secunet not only supplies the appropriate software, but also provides support in the form of the highly skilled expertise of its project staff. They have already successfully introduced a PKifor eMRTDs in many other European countries under similar conditions. What makes this project special is that it was implemented within a year. This was possible because the elD PKI Suite meets all common requirements, eliminating the need for time-consuming adaptation or development processes. The combination of the ready-to-use product and comprehensive project experience enabled Spain to implement it quickly.

At the beginning of 2025, EXCEM GRUPO 1971, S. A, and secunet were commissioned to introduce the elD PK/ Suite. As a subcontractor to EXCEM, secunet supplied the proven elD PK Suite and supported EXCEM and its project team in implementing the project.
