secunet becomes a core member of CharIN and helps shaping the future of electromobility

[Essen, Germany, 4 March 2021] secunet, Germany's leading cybersecurity company, joins the Charging Interface Initiative e.V. (CharIN) as a core member. The initiative aims to establish the Combined Charging System (CCS) as a global industry standard for charging systems for electric vehicles and thus promote the spread of electromobility. secunet contributes its expertise in IT security.

CharIN's members currently include more than 200 industrial and automotive companies from all over the world. The members work in focus groups and task forces to further develop and establish the CCS.

secunet currently heads the PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) task force. A PKI is a cryptographic system that provides security during the simple and convenient charging process in accordance with the ISO 15118 ("Plug & Charge") standard. secunet had already participated in the development of ISO 15118 and has extensive expertise in this area.

"secunet has been involved in the automotive environment for many years. As a core member of CharIN, we want to help integrate and anchor IT security in the industry standard - and thus remove a current obstacle to the spread of electromobility. We look forward to constructive cooperation with the other members of the initiative," says Uwe Wittig, Head of the Industry Division at secunet.
