Packet filter from secunet receives IT security certificate according to Common Criteria

World's first certification of the complete IPv6 packet filter functionality of a UTM security solution[Essen, June 16, 2011] The packet filter of the secunet wall 2 has received German security certification according to Common Criteria version 3.1 at EAL4+ from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). The certification applies to the product secunet wall 2 Packet Filter Version 1.000/Astaro Security Gateway V8 Packet Filter Version 1.000, which was jointly developed by secunet Security Networks AG and Astaro. It is the first complete IPv6 packet filter functionality of a Unified Threat Management solution in the world to receive certification.

"The certification confirms that the security of the secunet wall 2 packet filter meets the very highest demands. For our customers this means that they can rely on independently verified security," explains Dr. Rainer Baumgart, CEO of secunet.Jan Hichert, founder and CEO of Astaro, reports: "We are delighted that Astaro received this demanding and internationally recognized certification; it demonstrates once again that security and future technologies don't have to be mutually exclusive."

The highest internationally recognized EAL4+ certification level not only requires an inspection of the development environment, but also the examination of the entire source code by independent experts. The IT security certificate thereby guarantees customers that security regulations have been implemented correctly and that the processes used for that correspond to recognized standards.

The certified packet filter will be supplied for the first time in version 8.103 of secunet wall 2.
