German armed forces buy SINA to help harmonise their C4I systems

[Essen, 25 September 2014] The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has commissioned secunet to provide several hundred SINA components. The BAAINBw is procuring the SINA technology to help with the renewal of crypto components in the German armed forces' joint C4I system (FüInfoSysSK) as part of the "HaFIS" harmonisation programme.

The armed forces' C4I systems support and safeguard the preparation, management and evaluation of national and multinational deployments. "HaFIS" is a comprehensive programme being implemented by the German armed forces to harmonise and migrate these systems.

The items to be supplied include the SINA L3 Box H, which is used by the armed forces – and particularly in their management information systems – as a virtual private network gateway, and the multisession-capable SINA Workstation H. These SINA systems are core IT infrastructure components in high-security networks and they enable the processing, transmission and storage of classified data up to and including "GEHEIM", "NATO SECRET" or "MISSION SECRET" level. The components will be delivered before the end of the current financial year.

"The order from the BAAINBw for more SINA products attests to our technological expertise in providing high-quality security solutions for sensitive infrastructures," said Dr Rainer Baumgart, Chairman of the Management Board of secunet Security Networks AG. "Our excellent working relationship with the armed forces and the work we have done to fulfil their specific requirements have had a significant influence on the development of our products," he adds with emphasis. "This order has also enabled us to achieve a key milestone in meeting our annual targets."

About SINA: SINA (Secure Inter-Network Architecture) is a high-security solution. It was developed by secunet, in collaboration with the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), specifically for public authorities and armed forces, which have used it successfully for many years.
