Today, trust in information technology plays a vital role, as it is finding its way into more and more areas of our lives: online banking and social networks can only work if users place their trust in the platforms. And vice versa, companies must provide platforms that can be trusted.
That's why the Institute for Internet Security (if(is)) and the Media Design degree program at Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences launched an appeal this semester to encourage students to concern themselves with the topic of trust in IT. The ideas and interpretations were to be implemented visually and submitted to take part in a competition. The project was lead by media designer Prof. Norbert Hammer and Prof. (TU NN) Norbert Pohlmann from the Institute for Internet Security (if(is)).
Complementary to the degree course, both creativity and the use of new media were sought after. The students were encouraged to use digital media for their design. Alongside digital photography, the students were explicitly allowed to use 2D and 3D software for the creative competition.
In the end, 26 works made it to the final and were showcased on Tuesday at the opening of the exhibition in the gallery in front of the Computer Science department at Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences. In the competition, Martin Kyas achieved third place, Lukas Korten took second place, and René Wernicke was able to secure first place. The Essen-based IT security specialist secunet Security Networks AG sponsored the competition.
