BSI Certifies secunet as IT Security Service Provider

[Essen, 12 July 2011] The German Federal Office for Security for Information Security (BSI) has certified secunet as an IT service provider for German federal authorities. With the certification, the BSI affirms secunet's trustworthiness and competence so that it can assist authorities in developing and implementing security concepts according to fundamental IT protection as well as the corresponding revisions.

The federal implementation plan Umsetzungsplan Bund from 2007 stipulates that federal authorities must ensure sufficient IT security of their systems for both the intermediate and the long term. This includes the development and implementation of security concepts according to fundamental IT protection, the execution of security analyses, and supplemental risk analyses (information security consulting) as well as internal audits and the implementation of information security revisions (IS revisions).

The BSI supports federal authorities in their selection of appropriate IT security service providers. To this end, the BSI presents a certificate to companies whose services display expertise and quality. The security and quality management systems of the IT security service providers are audited. Additionally, individual employees who will be employed in the consulting and revision projects are screened.

Aside from secunet, only one other company has been certified to offer information security consulting and revision to federal authorities.
