Development of "mobile police apps" for more efficient mobile searches and document checks

On behalf of the German Federal Police, secunet developed several "Mobile Police Apps" for property and personal searches as well as document checks in real time.

These application-specific BPOL apps are based on the secunet biomiddle software platform and together enable the mobile reading and checking of electronic identity documents, i.e. ID cards, passports or residence permits:

With the search app, for example, police background systems are queried and the check results are displayed to the officer directly on the smartphone within a very short time. With the document verification app, verification is carried out by reading out the MRZ and chip data. In the event of a suspicion of forgery, police officers can use the BPOL apps to transmit information on the document, such as an image of the data page or the results of the chip check, to a document specialist for further verification.

The process of establishing identity in mobile operations is now much more efficient thanks to the apps. They are used in the Federal Police on Android devices and are to be continuously expanded with further functions, such as facial comparison or fingerprint verification.
