The different degree of confidentiality of data are reflected in the various confidentiality-levels. In the German Federal Armed Forces, data are processed and transmitted up to the confidentiality-level SECRET. These levels determine the corresponding requirements to the hardware and software to be used. During missions of the army, the air force or the marine, devices must furthermore bear up against special impacts.
Global networking does not stop at national frontiers, nor does it stop at the boundaries of military IT-systems. In order to be able to carry out communication within multinational organisations, international requirements for secrecy-protection of NATO and the EU must be complied with as well.
