secunet biomiddle for passport- and visa-applications in 200 German embassies

The German Federal Foreign Office uses secunet biomiddle for passport- and visa-applications in its 200 embassies worldwide. Including biometric features into these eID-documents, the embassies must now check the applicants’ photos for their biometric suitability and capture their fingerprints directly. This means that every mission abroad needs the respective systems. Thus, the solution must be fast, reliable, compatible to Linux and flexible. secunet biomiddle meets every single one of these requirements.

Worldwide secure communication via the Internet with SINA

The German Federal Foreign Office uses SINA to secure communication between all German embassies world-wide. The main challenges in the project included securing electronic communication for embassies' sensitive data and guaranteeing high availability in addition to creating an integrated, common IT platform.

The requirements of the project make SINA the ideal choice together with our experience in the fields of consulting and integration.

secunet also designed a security concept for the German Federal Foreign Office which comprises, in particular, the migration of the servers to the Linux operating system. Parallel to increasing security, this concept also ensures cost efficiency.

For the German embassies, this means that processes now run with much more convenience and speed. Furthermore, huge savings have been realised in terms of communication costs – the Internet as a cheap way of communication can be used instead of expensive leased lines. As a result of the successful co-operation during this project, the German Federal Foreign Office has seen fit to entrust secunet with additional tasks in various areas which are relevant to IT security.
